Wawa To Break Ground On First DC Store Next Week

It will be the first of several Wawas to open in the D.C. area in the coming years.

WASHINGTON, DC — Get ready, Wawa fans: the first D.C. store is coming soon, and the company will be holding a ground-breaking celebration to mark the start of construction on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

It will be the first store in the Washington, D.C. region, and it will go up at 1111 19th Street NW. Wawa plans to open five to 10 stores in the market over the next few years.

This Wawa store will have 9,200 square feet of space. Officials will provide an update on store locations and opening schedule at the ground-breaking event.

"During the event, Wawa will toast the occasion with free ice-cold Wawa-brand iced teas, lemonades and juices, and other fun giveaways," reads a statement from Wawa. "Wawa will conclude the event with representatives from Wawa, local officials, local Wawa charitable and business partners and members of the community unveiling a new store front sign and mural depicting the start of construction and announcing to the block that it’s official—Wawa is coming soon!"

Several local officials will be on hand, including D.C. Councilmember Jack Evans.
