Weapons Found at Fletcher's Boathouse in Northwest: Reports

WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Park Police are investigating two areas where weapons were found along the C&O canal near Fletcher's Boathouse in Northwest D.C., according to reports.

Authorities blocked off Canal Road at Fletcher's Cove while they investigated. They responded to the scene after a woman who was walking in the woods along the C&O Canal Wednesday morning came upon a violin case near the boathouse at Fletcher's Cove, according to a Fox 5 report, which noted that responding officers began to find more guns and ammunition nearby. Some were stashed in pails, others in garbage bags.

There were a mix of long guns and pistols, according to the report.

Investigators are still trying to figure out who the weapons belong to or why they are there.

Fletcher's Boathouse is a National Park Service concession located on the Potomac River near the far west corner of Washington, D.C. It is a prime spot for fishing and hiking.
