'Wheel Of Fortune' Picks Fredericksburg, Lorton Residents As Contestants For DC Show

Residents of Lorton and Fredericksburg will be among the contestants appearing on the special D.C. "Wheel of Fortune" episode on Oct. 20.

WASHINGTON, DC — Three D.C. area residents will be appearing on "Wheel of Fortune" on Wednesday, Oct. 20 as part of the game show’s “Great American Cities” week.

Each night, during the week of Oct. 18-22, a different city will be celebrated. All contestants competing on the Oct. 20 show will be from the D.C. area.

The episode will feature segments that hosts Pat Sajak and Vanna White recorded on location to highlight the best-known sites in the D.C. area. All three D.C. locals were selected to be contestants after applying online at WheelofFortune.com and participating in a virtual audition.

The D.C. show’s contestants are:

  • Anne Benovil-Murphy is a D.C. native and current resident of Lorton. Benovil-Murphy is an Air Force veteran and pharmacist. She is married with three children and enjoys exercising and cheering on the local sports teams. Benovil-Murphy, a Wheel of Fortune watcher for more than 30 years, plans to donate a portion of any winnings to Little Sisters of the Poor.
  • Sean Belako of Fredericksburg is a middle school math teacher who has two sons. He loves listening to ‘80s music, reading, and playing trivia games. Sean has been watching Wheel of Fortune since the early 1980s and recalls watching every day with his grandfather. “One time, as we were watching the show, I was solving the puzzles, and my Grandpap said to me, ‘Sean, you should be on this show, you're so good at solving the puzzles,’” Belako told the Wheel of Fortune producers. He hopes to win some cash that he can put toward his sons’ education.
  • Keisha Andrews-Veney of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, is a teacher who is married with one daughter. In her free time, she loves to shop, paint, and wine taste. She has been watching Wheel of Fortune since she was seven years old. She hopes to take home enough cash and prizes to share with loved ones.

The show with D.C. area contestants will air on WJLA (ABC7) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20.

Wheel of Fortune fans can submit applications for a chance to be invited to a virtual audition. If selected to be on the show, every contestant goes home with a minimum of $1,000.
