When is Your Trash Getting Picked Up in DC This Thanksgiving Weekend?

The Thanksgiving holiday will throw a wrench into typical refuse collection schedules in the area.

WASHINGTON, DC — Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year to be with your family and relax, but all that trash starts to pile up and no one wants it sitting around for a long time. Thanksgiving creates interesting schedule challenges for local government, and your area will likely have its own unique refuse collection schedule.

So when exactly are garbage collectors going to pick up your trash? Fortunately for D.C. residents, you won't have to wait too long. D.C. operates on a "slide" schedule, meaning that when a holiday occurs, the trash collection schedule simply slides a day to the right.

D.C. collects twice a week on Mondays and Thursday in many areas, so trash collection that would normally happen on Thursday will now happen on Friday.
