WASHINGTON — The annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner returned after six years Saturday, with President Joe Biden taking the stage to poke fun at himself and roast his predecessor, who shunned the event while in office.

“I’m really excited to be here tonight with the only group of Americans with a lower approval rating than I have," Biden quipped, as he went on to spotlight the right's “Let’s Go Brandon” slogan. The president also shone a light on journalism and the importance of a free press.

“I mean this from the bottom of my heart, that you, the free press, matter more than you ever did in the last century,” he said. “You are the guardians of the truth.”
