• Nesting notes: Post-hatchling return (islander.org) — Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch is tracking an active nesting season, with hundreds of sea turtle nests, thousands of hatchlings, and some disorientations tied to lighting and beach obstacles. Locals are urged not to return washed-back post-hatchlings to the Gulf, but to call AMITW’s hotline so exhausted turtles can get rehabilitation and a better chance at survival. 
• ‘Conservation is a team sport': Suncoast charter captains unite against Sarasota Bay poaching (mysuncoast.com) — Charter captains working the waters around Anna Maria Island and Longboat Pass say illegal harvesting of shellfish and other small marine life is damaging Sarasota Bay’s ecosystem. Their new Habitat Guardian Group urges residents and visitors to learn harvesting rules, avoid direct confrontations, and report suspected poaching to Florida Fish and Wildlife so future generations can enjoy healthy local waters.
