The Turtle Watch group is offering emergency grants, working with a Bradenton lighting company, and reminding locals that even lights several blocks away can lure baby turtles off course. Residents near the beach are urged to switch to turtle-friendly bulbs and call the hotline if they spot wayward hatchlings.

Deputies say strong tides and a large wave pulled him under while swimming from an anchored boat, and despite a rapid multi-agency rescue and hospital transport, he could not be saved. Authorities urge extra caution around inlets, sandbars, and shifting currents.
