Apollo Beach Preserve Reopens To The Public With Complete Tower

Officials said this is the first tower in Hillsborough County that is wheelchair-accessible.

APOLLO BEACH, FL — Apollo Beach Nature Preserve reopened to the public on Wednesday with its complete observation tower, and Centers for Disease Control guidelines in place as everyone continues to navigate through the coronavirus pandemic.

The preserve closed to the public in March for the construction of the 37-foot observation tower, and rehabilitation of an existing seawall.

Officials said the broad wooden tower, located near the center of the waterfront preserve, is the County's first wheelchair-accessible tower.

Swimming is prohibited because of swift offshore currents, but authorities said eight breakwaters are in place to protect and preserve the beach.

The preserve has parking capacity restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic.

Only 10 people at a time are allowed on the observation tower, and picnic pavilions are closed until further notice.
