FL's Back-To-School Sales Tax Holiday Is Here: Check Out Eligible Items

ACROSS FLORIDA — Florida shoppers can save on a wide range of back-to-school purchases during the state's 2026 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, which is going on now and running through Aug. 20.

The annual tax holiday, approved by the Florida Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis, began Monday, July 20, and exempts many school-related purchases from Florida sales tax if they meet certain price limits.

The tax break applies to qualifying clothing, footwear, school supplies, learning aids, backpacks and personal computers purchased for noncommercial home or personal use.

The Florida Department of Revenue said the exemption is intended to help families prepare for the new school year while reducing the cost of essential items.

Among the biggest-ticket purchases included in the holiday are personal computers and eligible computer accessories costing $1,500 or less. Qualifying computers include desktops, laptops, tablets, calculators, electronic book readers, handheld devices and tower computers.

Accessories such as keyboards, mice, routers, monitors, modems and certain nonrecreational software also qualify under the exemption.

The sales tax holiday also covers wallets and bags priced at $100 or less, school supplies costing $50 or less, learning aids and jigsaw puzzles priced at $30 or less, and clothing, shoes and accessories costing $100 or less per item.

The exemption does not apply to the rental or repair of qualifying items. It also does not apply to purchases made at theme parks, entertainment complexes, public lodging establishments or airports.
