The Velvet Rope Offers Designer Clothes In Valrico

The Velvet Rope, located in the Plaza Bella shopping center in Valrico, features New Orleans-inspired garments with modern sensibility and
flair. 

Offering a rainbow of beautiful gowns, cocktail dresses and trendy evening wear, the boutique was designed to mirror owner Tammie Borden’s idea of a dream closet.

After relocating to the Tampa area following Hurricane Katrina, her brother died and then she was laid off. Following that hectic year, Borden decided it was time to follow her childhood dream of opening a boutique.

“I knew this would be a difficult task in the midst of the economy falling,” admitted Borden who opened The Velvet Rope in July 2009 with partners Cornelius, Christina and Sebastian Borden. The business will celebrate its two-year anniversary this month, and Borden hopes to one day open a second location.

Prices for the designer evening wear range from $99 to $800. For more casual looks, prices start at $29. Accessories, shoes, handbags and undergarments also can be found at The Velvet Rope.

“There is no place like The Velvet Rope,” said Borden. “We show everyone that special attention to make them feel as if they are a superstar.”

Business hours for the boutique are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. During the months of September through November, longer season hours are observed. Season hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Borden says that shoppers are also always welcome to set up private consultations.
