Treatment Facility Emphasizes Mental Health Care During National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month

The Recovery Team – Delray Beach is making mental healthcare more accessible in South Florida.

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — July marks National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, a national observance aimed at breaking the stigma around mental illness in communities of color and promoting access to mental health care. Here in South Florida, The Recovery Team - Delray Beach is taking action, offering licensed primary mental health treatment—no substance use diagnosis required.

Nearly one in five U.S. adults experiences a mental illness each year. Yet minorities are significantly less likely to receive treatment. Among adults reporting fair or poor mental health, 50 percent of white individuals accessed care in the past three years, compared with just 39 percent of Black adults and 36 percent of Hispanic adults, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.

The Recovery Team – Delray Beach is working to close that gap through inpatient residential and partial hospitalization programs focused solely on mental health treatment. The facility is licensed to treat conditions such as depression, anxiety, and trauma without requiring a co-occurring substance use disorder—an important distinction for those who don’t meet the addiction criteria or may hesitate to seek help because of perceived stigma.

“Recognizing your pain and choosing to seek help is a powerful act of self-care,” said Rahjanni Iusi, clinical director of The Recovery Team - Delray Beach. “We’re here to let people know that if you’re struggling with your mental health, that’s enough reason to reach out. We’re here for you.”

South Florida is one of the most diverse regions in the country. Every department in the facility has at least one team member who also speaks Spanish fluently. This approach makes care accessible to more people.

Treatment at The Recovery Team in Delray Beach extends beyond traditional trauma-focused therapies. Patients have access to advanced services, including GeneSight® testing and Spravato® ketamine therapy. GeneSight® analyzes how a patient’s genes affect medication response, helping clinicians tailor treatment and avoid a trial-and-error process. Spravato® is a nasal spray approved for treatment-resistant depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and suicidal thoughts.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation, or TMS, is also offered. TMS is a noninvasive procedure that stimulates targeted brain cells and is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder and smoking cessation.

The facility rounds out its comprehensive treatment approach with holistic therapies such as yoga, massage therapy, chiropractic care and art therapy.

National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month also serves as a reminder that mental health care should be available to everyone, not just those struggling with substance use. For many, accessible mental health care has been out of reach. The Recovery Team is helping fill a vital gap in care, offering comprehensive mental health services without requiring a substance use disorder diagnosis.

The Recovery Team- Delray Beach is located at 705 Linton Boulevard.
