Head-On Crash Kills 2 Men On S.R. 64 In Eastern Manatee County Tuesday: FHP

Two men were killed in a head-on collision on S.R. 64 near S.W. Oak Point Drive in eastern Manatee County Tuesday afternoon, FHP said.

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — Two men were killed in a Tuesday afternoon head-on crash in eastern Manatee County, according to a news release from Florida Highway Patrol.

Around 5:15 p.m., the driver of a Honda Civic, a 29-year-old man from Sarasota, was traveling east on S.R. 64 approaching S.W. Oak Point Drive. At the same time, the driver of a Dodge SUV, a 54-year-old man from Wauchula, was driving west on S.R. 64, heading toward the same intersection.

As the Sarasota man attempted to follow a left-hand curve in the road, he crossed the center lane into S.R. 64’s westbound travel lane, hitting the front left of the SUV, FHP said. After the collision, both cars rotated across the road.

Manatee County Fire Rescue responded to the crash. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, FHP said.

The crash was investigated by Florida Highway Patrol’s traffic homicide investigators, who were gathering evidence from the scene Tuesday night.
