Cyclist Killed In Crash In Manatee County

Police said the collision occurred early Saturday near the intersection of 53rd Avenue West and 66th Street West.

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — A Ruskin man is dead after police said he was struck by a car while riding a bicycle on Saturday.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 4:25 a.m. near the intersection of 53rd Avenue West and 66th Street West.

Police said a BMW driven by a 24-year-old Sarasota man was traveling west on the outside lane of 53rd Avenue West, approaching 66th Street West, when he struck the 48-year-old cyclist.

According to police, the cyclist was traveling west in the designated bike lane on 53rd Avenue West when the BMW's front end struck him.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
