2 Drivers Dead, 3 Children, 2 Others Injured In Myakka City Crash: FHP

Both drivers in a Myakka City crash were killed and five people were injured, including three children, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

MYAKKA CITY, FL — A Myakka City crash claimed the lives of both drivers and left five people injured, including three children, Tuesday night, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

Around 11:35 p.m., a 38-year-old Bradenton man was driving a car west on State Road 70, just west of Sugar Bowl Road. At the same time, a 26-year-old Sarasota man was driving his car east on S.R. 70 in the same area.

The Bradenton driver left his lane, crossing into the eastbound travel lane and hitting the front of the other vehicle, FHP said.

After colliding, his car rotated and came to a stop in the road’s westbound lane. The other car rotated and hit a guardrail.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, FHP said. The Bradenton driver’s passengers – a 38-year-old woman and three children, ages 5, 7 and 12, all from Bradenton – were critically injured in the crash.

The Sarasota driver’s passenger, a 31-year-old Bradenton woman, was seriously injured.

All five injured people were brought to area hospitals.

The crash remains under investigation, FHP said.
