2001 Cold Case Homicide Investigated: Manatee County Sheriff's Office

PALMETTO, FL — Detectives with the Manatee County Homicide Unit are seeking information in the 2001 cold case homicide of 20-year-old Wajid Coleman.

On July 23, 2001, around 4 a.m., Coleman left his home at 1302 29th Street E. in Palmetto and was never seen alive again.

One week later, on July 30, 2001, he was found lying in a wooded area in the 600 block of Magellan Drive. An autopsy found that Coleman died from a gunshot wound to his head.

At the time, investigators had few leads and despite efforts to find those responsible for Coleman’s murder, the case went cold. Homicide detectives are now reviewing evidence and looking for the public’s help in solving this 22-year-old case.
