50th Florida State League All-Star Game Preview

Remember collecting baseball cards as a kid? Here's a preview of some of the Bradenton Marauders players competing in the Florida State League All Star Game at Bright House Field on Saturday night.

Here are bios and stats of players of Patch-area teams playing in the 50th Florida State League All Star Game on Saturday at Bright House Field in Clearwater. players were selected to take part.

Festivities begin with the Yuengling Home Run Derby at 5:45 p.m. The game's first pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Ramon Cabrera, C, Bradenton

Full Name: Ramon Cabrera

Born: 11/05/1989

Birthplace: Sucre, Venezuela

Height: 5-7

Bio: The Pirates organization is loaded with catchers and Cabrera is just one of them. Hitting .327 with 62 total bases, Cabrera, a switch-hitter, is a serious weapon at the plate.

Signed as a free agent in 2008 by the Pirates, Cabrera is in his second full season of professional baseball. Even playing his highest level of baseball, Cabrera is having his best season and has already matched his season high for RBIs at 13.

Fun fact: This is Cabrera's second All Star game. Playing for West Virginia of the South Atlantic League last year, Cabrera also made that league's mid-season classic.

Jarek Cunningham, 2B, Bradenton

Full Name: Jarek Michael Cunningham

Born: 12/25/1989

Birthplace: Spokane, Wash.

Height: 6-1

Weight: 195

Bats/Throws: R/R

Bio: Selected in the eighth round of the 2008 draft, Cunningham is hitting just .266; Cunningham is lethal with men at the plate and a dangerous power hitter. He's fifth in the FSL in home runs (12), total bases (125) and doubles (17).

Cunningham is not having his best year at the plate for batting average having hit .318 in his first year playing in the Gulf Coast League. But his power numbers this season have already eclipsed his previous season totals.

Fun facts: Cunningham missed the entire 2009 season as he tore an ACL in his knee during spring training conditioning drills in March 2009.

Aaron Baker, 1B, Bradenton

Full Name: Aaron Hawkins Baker

Born: 9/10/1987

Birthplace: Denton, Tex

College: Oklahoma

Height: 6-2

Weight: 220

Bats/Throws: L/R

Bio: Baker has been an RBI machine for the Marauders. In 63 games he has 47 RBIs, fifth-best in the FSL. Though hitting .283, Baker has improved recently as twice in the past week he has had two three-hit games.

Baker was drafted in the 11th round of the 2009 draft by the Pirates. This is his second full season of professional baseball and now playing at this third level in the Pirates organization, has improved in his hitting in each promotion.

Fun fact: Baker has won league honors at in both his professional rookie year and last season. Baker was named Player of the Week in the final week of the New York-Penn League season in 2009 and last year played in the South Atlantic League All Star game.

Jonathan Pettibone, RHP, Clearwater

Born: 7/19/1990

Birthplace: Yorba Linda, Calif.

Height: 6-5

Bio: Pettibone is in his fourth professional season after being drafted by the Phillies in the third round of the 2008 draft. Despite playing in his highest level of professional baseball, Pettibone is having his best season of his career.

Pettibone is a strikeout artists with 58 strikeouts compared to 18 walks. He is fourth in the Florida State League at 2.47 and third in the league in wins (6).

Fun fact: Pettibone is from the birthplace of the 37th president of the United States, Richard Nixon.

Julio Rodriguez, RHP, Clearwater

Born: 8/29/1990

Birthplace: Toa Alta, Puerto Rico

Height: 6-4

Weight: 195

Bats/Throws: R/R

Bio: Rodriguez is in his fourth season of professional baseball, drafted by the Phillies in 2008 in the eighth round. Though he was dominant in the South Atlantic League last season, Rodriguez is faring pretty well in the FSL.

Rodriguez is tied for the lead in the FSL in wins with eight.

Fun fact: Rodriguez was schooled in the art of baseball at the Puerto Rican Baseball Academy.

Trevor May, RHP, Clearwater

Born: 9/23/1989

Birthplace: Kelso, Wash.

Height: 6-5

Weight: 215

Bats/Throws: R/R

Bio: May's numbers have remained pretty consistent since he began his pro career in 2008 when he was a fourth round draft by the Phillies. May has been known as a strikeout artist. He's tied for the FSL lead in strikeouts with 88.

As well as May is pitching he may be hard-pressed to top his professional record of last season when, splitting time between the South Atlantic League and the Florida State League, May rang up 182 punchouts.

Fun fact: May recorded his only professional complete game this season; He has 60 career starts,

Jarred Cosart, RHP, Clearwater

Full Name: Jarred Lynn Cosart

Born: 5/25/1990

Birthplace: League City, Tex.

Height: 6-3

Weight: 180

Bio: Cosart is a shining example of why the draft is an inexact science. Drafted in the 38th round in by the Phillies in 2008, Cosart looks to be on his way to a promotion.

Cosart is third in the FSL in wins with six. He also has a good strikeout-to-walk radio of 56 strikeouts and 27 walks. He is one more inning away from matching his previous high for innings pitched in a season.

Fun fact: Cosart played in last year's Futures Game during the Major League Baseball All Star Game at Anaheim, Calif.

Wes Etheridge, RHP, Dunedin

Full Name: James Wes Etheridge

Born: 08/12/1984

Birthplace: Irvine, Calif.

College: UC Irvine

Height: 6' 1"

Weight: 185

Bio: Etheridge, drafted by the Brewers in the 12th round of the 2007 draft was out of professional baseball in 2009 and played independent ball in Hawaii last season. The Blue Jays took a flier on him for this season and Etheridge has exploded.

Etheridge, a relief pitcher, leads the FSL in saves with 23, far ahead of second place Justin Friend of Clearwater who has 19.in 33 1/3 games he has just five walks.

Fun fact: Pitching for Maui in the Golden Baseball League in 2010, Etheridge was a perfect 15-for-15 in save opportunities.

Deck McGuire, RHP, Dunedin

Full Name: William Deck McGuire

Born: 6/23/1989

Birthplace: Richmond, Vir.

College: Georgia Tech

Height: 6-6

Weight: 220

Bats/Throws: R/R

Bio: McGuire was drafted by the Blue Jays last year in the first round and thus far he has not disappointed. Through 10 starts he has only allowed five home runs through 56 innings pitched.

McGuire's most dominant game likely was June 8 at Brevard County when the struck out 10 batters while walking two in just five innings pitched.

Fun fact: McGuire pitched three seasons at Georgia Tech and his worst season was his junior season where he was tagged with four losses, yet was still the 11th pick in last year's draft.

A.J. Jimenez, C, Dunedin

Full Name: Antonio J. Jimenez

Born: 5/01/1990

Birthplace: San Juan, Puerto Rico

Height: 5-11

Weight: 200

Bats/Throws: R/R

Bio: A catcher who hits over .300 is exceptional and Jimenez is having an exceptional year. Currently fifth in the FSL in batting average with .328, Jimenez is clearly one of better catchers in the Blue Jays organization.

Jimenez was drafted by the Blue Jays in the ninth round of the 2008 draft. He's having his best season as a pro in his first full season in the FSL. Each season as a professional Jimenez has improved his hitting. Jimenez is on pace to wipe out his personal best season for total bases of 114 set last year. He currently has 79.

Fun fact: Jimenez is making his second appearance in an All Star game since he signed with the Blue Jays. Last year he played in the Midwest League's All Star game.

Bradley Glenn, OF, Dunedin

Full Name: Bradley Edward Glenn

Born: 4/02/1987

Birthplace: Cedartown, Ga.

College: Arizona

Height: 6-2

Weight: 220

Bats/Throws: R/R

Bio: Glenn doesn't hit much for average with only a .272 clip but the guy racks up the total bases. Glenn is third in the FSL with 128 total bases and is fourth in the league in RBIs with 48.

Glenn was taken 700th overall (23rd round) in the 2009 draft. In his second full season of professional baseball, Glenn's numbers are shockingly consistent. He is hitting one point higher than he finished the 2010 season.

Fun fact: As a high school player in Tulsa, Okla., Glenn was a Louisville Slugger All American.

Justin Jackson, OF, Dunedin

Full Name: Justin Jackson

Born: 12/11/1988

Birthplace: Asheville, N.C.

Height: 6-1

Weight: 186

Bats/Throws: R/R

Bio: An outfielder, Jackson is a speed demon and more of a singles hitter than a power hitter, though he has a fair amount of total bases with 82.

Jackson is having his best season at the plate as a professional though his total bases numbers is on pace for his previous season best in 2008 while playing in the Midwest League.

Fun fact: Jackson was named FSL Player of the Week in late May.
