ELLENTON, FL — A second waterfront hotel is planned to be built along the Manatee River in Ellenton.

Manatee County commissioners approved a preliminary site plan for an 85,000-square-foot SpringHill Suites at a recent Land Use meeting, according to the Bradenton Herald. The new six-story hotel with 119 rooms and 124 parking spaces will sit on 2.1 acres at 6115 18th Street, south of U.S. 301 and east of 60th Street.

The SpringHill Suites brand, owned by Marriott, already has locations in downtown Bradenton on the riverfront and near the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport.

In February, commissioners approved a Holiday Inn Express in the Ellenton area, near where the new SpringHill Suites is planned. This nearly 68,000-square-foot hotel on a 3-acre site will have 92 rooms and five floors, the Herald reported at the time. A two-story restaurant is also planned for the property.

“I think this is great,” Commissioner George Kruse, who supported both projects, said during the Feb. 2 Land Use meeting. “This is a great opportunity to use that land for what it should be used for. I think it’s going to be very successful and I thank you for bringing it to us.”
