89-Year-Old Man Hit By Truck While Crossing Road In Sarasota: FHP

SARASOTA, FL — An 89-year-old Sarasota man died after being hit by a pick-up truck while crossing a road in Sarasota Monday evening, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The man was attempting to cross Whitfield Avenue, just east of Tuttle Avenue, just after 7 p.m. when the truck hit him.

The truck, driven by a 24-year-old Sarasota man, stopped at a stop sign on Whitfield Avenue before traveling west from the and hitting the victim as he was crossing the street, FHP said.

The pedestrian was later pronounced dead, and the investigation remains ongoing.
