Accused Carjacker Shot Himself In The Head: Cops
The man was wanted on armed robbery and armed carjacking charges in Sarasota and Manatee counties.
BRADENTON, FL — The pursuit of an armed carjacking suspect wanted in two counties ended Tuesday night with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to the Bradenton Police Department, officers spotted Cody A. Morrison, 29, driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant around 7:16 p.m. Tuesday. The Galant had been reported stolen out of Manatee County.
Police officers began pursuing Morrison, an email from the agency said. Morrison, however, bailed out of the car on foot and ran to the area of Lafayette and Desoto streets. He continued westbound and kicked in a door of a home in the 200 block of Crescent Court.

“Mr. Morrison held the two residents at gunpoint and robbed them of cash, cellphone and vehicle keys,” the email said. Morrison, however, was unable to get into the vehicle before he was spotted again.
Morrison again took off on foot.

The pursuit led westbound across Vermont Avenue towards East 24th Street.
“Mr. Morrison walked out into the 200 block of Vermont Avenue holding a stolen gun to the right side of his head,” the email said. Several police officer ordered Morrison to put down the gun, but he didn’t. K9 Riggs was released, but police say Morrison shot himself in the head and fell to the ground.
As of Tuesday evening, Morrison was on life support and wasn’t expected to survive his injury, police said.
The Bradenton man was wanted in connection with a number of armed robberies and carjacking incidents that occurred over the past few days in Manatee and Sarasota counties.
