After Shooting Mother's Boyfriend, Man Sentenced In FL: State Attorney
A man who shot and killed his mother's boyfriend was sentenced to 20 years in state prison, according to State Attorney Ed Brodsky's office.
MANATEE COUNTY, FL — A Manatee County man was sentenced April 28 to state prison for manslaughter with a firearm after shooting and killing his mother’s boyfriend in 2019, according to a news release from State Attorney Ed Brodsky’s office.
Tevin Hickson-Johnson, who was on probation for burglary at the time of the shooting, will spend 20 years in a Florida prison, which will run consecutively with his violation of probation sentence of 15 years in state prison.
On Oct. 9, 2019, Hickson-Johnson got into an altercation with his mother’s boyfriend. During this altercation, he pulled a gun and killed the victim, the state attorney’s office said.

The shooting was investigated by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
“We appreciate the jury's time and thoughtful deliberation, which led to the defendant being held accountable for his actions,” Dickey Hough, lead prosecutor and assistant state attorney, said. “The defendant clearly has chosen not to conform his conduct to the laws of society. As a result of law enforcement's diligent efforts in this case, our community is safer.”
