Student Arrested For Threatening Staff Member At School: Bradenton Police

A 17-year-old boy was arrested for making a threat under another student's name against a high school staff member, Bradenton police said.

BRADENTON, FL — A 17-year-old student was arrested after using another student's login credentials to send an electronic threat to a staff member at Manatee High School, Bradenton police said in a news release.

Police were notified Monday evening that a threatening message had been sent earlier that day through the MySDMC Focus App, the School District of Manatee County's student information system.

Crime Reduction Team officers initially contacted the student whose account was used to send the message. Investigators determined the account had been accessed and used by another student, according to the department.

Detectives working with the school district obtained additional information identifying the student, who accessed the MySDMC Focus account using the other student's login credentials, police said.

The suspect was detained at Manatee High School on Tuesday, questioned with parental permission and arrested.

He is charged with making a written or electronic threat to kill or do bodily injury, a second-degree felony, police said.

Though police named the teen, it's Patch policy not to name minors accused of a crime unless they've been charged as an adult. It's not known whether the suspect was charged as a juvenile or an adult.

As a precaution, additional patrol officers were assigned to the school on Tuesday, supplementing the Bradenton Police Department's school resource officers and Manatee County Sheriff's Office Guardians already assigned to Manatee High School.
