BRADENTON, FL — A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a double homicide in Bradenton that left two men dead last week, authorities said.
Jakourtney Johnson was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of second-degree murder with a firearm in the deaths of Antonio Rosario, 30, and Willie Stubbs Jr., 43, Bradenton police said in a news release.
Officers responded to a Sept. 22 shooting in the 400 block of 12th Avenue East, where they found Rosario and Stubbs near the end of a dead-end road, around 6:20 p.m.
Rosario died at the scene, while Stubbs died while being transported to a hospital.
The shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute among the three men, police said. Witnesses told investigators that the men confronted each other on 12th Avenue East, leading to a physical fight between Rosario and Stubbs.
During the altercation, witnesses reported seeing Johnson fire several shots toward Rosario. Both victims were struck and fatally wounded.
Johnson had been in custody since Sept. 26, when he was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants related to narcotics offenses.
During an interview with detectives, Johnson acknowledged knowing both victims but denied involvement in the shooting, police said.
