MANATEE COUNTY, FL — A 40-year-old Sun City Center man riding a bicycle was killed Monday morning after being hit by an SUV on U.S. 41, north of Buckeye Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.
The crash happened around 5 a.m., when a 2017 Ford Explorer traveling south moved from the right travel lane into a continuous right-turn lane, crossing the designated bicycle lane, the FHP said.
The SUV's front hit the bicyclist, who was also traveling south on U.S. 41.
The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.
The SUV's driver, a 23-year-old Ruskin man, wasn't injured in the crash, which remains under investigation by the FHP.
