Arrest Made in Bradenton Slayings

A man and a woman were killed on Tuesday.

BRADENTON, FL — A 38-year-old man has been charged in connection with the abduction and deaths of two people in Bradenton on Tuesday.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, Dwayne E. Cummings was brought into custody Thursday afternoon and charged with two counts of armed kidnapping. Murder charges are pending, the agency noted in an email to media.

Cummings was identified as the suspect in the deaths of Karl Tuxford, 38, and Jordin Finlon, 23.

Tuxford was gunned down on a Bradenton street around 12:50 p.m. When Bradenton Police officers arrived on the scene, they found Tuxford suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

“EMS attempted to provide medical attention on scene, however, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced as deceased,” an email from the police department said.

Around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a body found off Bishop Harbor Road in the Palmetto area. The woman was identified as Finlon, a Bradenton resident.

On Wednesday, deputies announced their belief the two cases were related.

Deputies were also seeking a second suspect in the deaths. Fredrick Douglas, 43, was brought into custody on Thursday, as well. He is currently charged with felony domestic battery on an outstanding warrant.

“At this time, he has not been charged in relation to the homicides as the investigation continues,” a Thursday night email from the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies say the incident appears to be drug-related.
