ArtSlam 2016 Coming Soon

The annual family event is taking place during the Bradenton Farmers' Market.

BRADENTON, FL — Bradenton area families looking for free, artistic fun will want to keep Saturday, March 5 open.

That’s the day Realize Bradenton’s ArtSlam 2016 is set to take place along with the Bradenton Farmers’ Market. The free, family friendly event is designed to take creativity outside of the classroom and “onto Old Main Street,” according to the Manatee County School District. Set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 440 12th St. W. in downtown, the March 5 event features interactive art from a number of schools throughout Manatee County.

The schedule includes these student artists and musicians, according to the school district:

    • Wakeland Elementary – “Woven Together” – A collaborative community quilt demonstrating the diversity of our community. Create a fabric bracelet to take home reminding you of how our differences, combined, has a beautiful result.
    • Haile Middle – “Realizing Rhythm” – Haile art students and the Haile Jazz Band create a visual representation rhythm and its use in creating artwork.
    • Bayshore High – “Community Mural” – Large outlined canvases ready to be filled by the public with images inspired by Manatee County.
    • Lakewood Ranch High – “Interactive Environmental Art” – Hands-on environmental art projects led by students. Support LRHS by purchasing student art work by donation.
    • Palmetto High – “Pop Art Face Painting” – Be a superhero for the day. Choose from three superhero themed face paint designs and get your picture taken in front of an artistic comic backdrop.
    • Southeast High – “Body Painting” – Three full-body master paintings will be created; and free face and arm painting for children.
    • Manatee School For the Arts – “Machines Making Masterpieces”– A large art making machine powered by MSA students will create art while students perform Improvisational dances inspired by the machines. Smaller art making machines will be available for the community to create their own masterpieces to keep.
    • Visible Men Academy – “The Art of Basketball” – VMA brings the first-ever 3-on-3 basketball tournament to the streets of Downtown.
    • Manatee High School’s drumline will be pumping up the crowd with a performance at 12:45 p.m.
    • Manatee Art Education Association, a professional organization for art teachers, will also be participating by hosting a booth.

The annual event is cosponsored by the Manatee Education Foundation. The foundation provides funding for innovative programs and enhanced educational opportunities for teachers and students in Manatee County.
