Athlete Of The Week: Mike Suchy, Southeast High Baseball
The Florida Gulf Coast University-bound shortstop helped the Seminoles to their first district championship in six years. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Suchy drew 20 walks and batted .362 with 26 runs scored, 18 RBI and four home runs in the regular season.
How does it feel to win a district championship?: Nothing compares. It feels great. It hadn't happened in (his) four years, but it felt like it was going to happen (y). Everything went right for us.
Is this your greatest baseball memory?: Yes, it is.
What was the former No. 1 (baseball memory)?: I would have to say playing with great kids in other tournaments. (Players) that I never thought I would be good enough to play with.

How long have you played baseball?: Ever since I could walk.
What other sports did you play growing up?: Football and basketball.

Did you have to make the decision to specialize in baseball once you reached high school?: This was my first year that I only played baseball.
What was the reason for that decision?: It's what I love and it's what I want to do.
Where are you going to school next year?: Florida Gulf Coast (University).
Besides Florida Gulf Coast, what other schools recruited you?: Miami, Tulane and Florida Atlantic.
What did you like best about Florida Gulf Coast?: They have a great system. They have built from the bottom. From being a (Division II) school to being Division I program to winning the (Atlantic Sun) conference championship the last three years. They're just doing everything right, and I want to be a part of it.
How are your grades?: I made the top four percent. I have a 4.25 (GPA).
What's your baseball team: The Cleveland Indians.
How did you become an Indians fan?: I was born in Dayton and lived in Cleveland.
Is there a particular professional player that you model your game and approach after?: (Former Charlotte High and University of Florida standout and current Cleveland first baseman) Matt LaPorta.
How long would you like to play baseball for?: I never want to stop.
