Beat the Heat With Tint Shark Window Tinting Services

Bradenton's Tint Shark is a one-man operation featuring window tinting services for automobiles as well as residential and commercial properties.

August has arrived and brought with it the suffocating heat that makes Florida residents long for relief from the sun and there's a shark out there that wants to bring that relief

Bradenton’s Tint Shark will apply window tints for your vehicle, home or office. Tint Shark owner, Paul Mello, operated a business called GTS Tint Pro in Fairhaven, Mass. for 20 years before relocating to Bradenton to escape the bitter cold of northeast winters.

He opened Tint Shark in 2010 and saw the difference in his clientele immediately.

“Most customers in Florida are just trying to reduce the heat,” said Mello. “Up north, it’s usually more for aesthetic reasons and for privacy, but here people are just trying to stay cool.”

Mello says that window tinting can reduce up to 79% of solar energy and 99% of ultraviolet radiation.

“Residential window films have been on the market since the 1970s, but in the past forty years there’s been quite a bit of progress and confirmation that window film is, indeed, very effective,” Mello said. “It’s Energy Star rated, making it popular in the green industry, and FPL even gives rebates for certain kinds of films applied in commercial buildings.”

As a member of the International Window Film Association (IWFA), Mello remains a leader in the industry and assists in lobbying for legislation to regulate the window film industry. He is currently accredited as a solar control specialist as well as a safety and security specialist.

Mello said that in addition to installing window tints for the purpose of heat reduction, many of his clients have the windows of their homes and automobiles tinted for added privacy.

“Most of the people who come in looking to get their windows tinted for privacy are actually women who want to prevent men from staring at them or harassing them when they’re driving,” said Mello.

He cautions drivers to be aware that there are legal limitations on darkness for window tints and recommends that they stay within those limits to avoid citations.

Mello said that in Florida, a good tint job typically lasts for approximately seven years, whereas up north the duration extends to as many as ten years. Every kind of window film carried at Tint Shark is made in the United States and comes with a lifetime warranty.

“Up north, mine was the only tint shop around, but down here it’s very competitive," Mello said. "There’s a page worth of businesses in the yellow pages, so I try to set myself apart by providing the best quality products.

“If a car is going to come back to me for service, I want to make sure I’m using the best stuff on the market,” he added.

Mello also said that he plans to begin offering automotive audio system installation services through Tint Shark in the near future. Clients will be able to order audio equipment through Tint Shark and Mello will bring in audio professionals to do the installation in the shop.

In addition to providing top-quality window tints and audio systems for clients’ homes and vehicles, Mello also reaches out to the community in the form of charitable services.

Tint Shark recently donated more than $1,800 of solar control window film installation services to AMIkids, a nonprofit school for at-risk children in Manatee County. Tint Shark also networks with the Suncoast Sign Shop to provide banners for Manatee Wildcats football and Manatee High School’s track team.

Tint Shark is open for typical business hours from 9 a.m. to  5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Mello recommends that customers make appointments because he is often away from the office for residential and commercial film installations, and Tint Shark is currently a one-man operation.
