After Being Hit From Behind By SUV On U.S. 41, Bicyclist Dies: Florida Highway Patrol

A bicyclist was killed after an SUV hit him from behind on U.S. 41 near 32nd Avenue West in Manatee County, Florida Highway Patrol said.

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — A bicyclist was killed in a crash with an SUV on U.S. 41 early Wednesday morning, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

A Dodge SUV, driven by a 54-year-old Bradenton man, was traveling south on U.S. 41 in the inside lane as he approached the intersection of 32nd Avenue West around 6:30 a.m.

At the same time, the bicyclist, a 63-year-old Sarasota man, was riding in the same direction, also in the inside lane, when the SUV hit him from behind, FHP said.

The collision knocked the bicycle over, causing the bicyclist to roll over the SUV’s hood and land in the U.S. 41 travel lane.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead on the scene by Manatee County EMS.

Florida Highway Patrol’s Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the crash. Criminal charges are pending upon completion of the investigation, FHP said
