The city of Bradenton planned to issue a "boil water" notice starting at 11 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, to allow for the repair of a broken water valve in the area of Cortez Road.

  • Water used for drinking or cooking must be boiled until the notice is lifted.
  • There is no harm in bathing or washing clothes and dishes in water that isn’t boiled.

The boil water notice is expected to last for 24 hours.

Many residents and businesses in the area already were contacted by the Bradenton Public Works & Utilities Department about the scheduled water shutoff and boil notice.

Repairs were scheduled to start late Tuesday night, after the notice is in effect. The water will be shut off for about three hours while the fixes are done.

After that, the water will be turned back on, but the notice will stay in effect, as the city samples water over the next 24 hours to ensure that it is safe. The sampling is done as a precaution.
