Competition And Compassion

Does compassion have a part in competition?

Manatee County Fair has come and gone for another year. Each year I have been thoroughly entertained as well as pleased with the new things I learned and the pleasure of meeting new people. We are involved with the Fair because of 4H and FFA.

Most of our time is given to Steer Week. Three T's Ranch offers steers for sale, and we have had one entered each of the past two years. Prospect Riding Center team, provides encouragement and support throughout the year. Hearing our local youth recite their Creeds and Pledges always stirs some feelings of pride within me. Watching the way they care for their projects shows the foundation for positive work ethic.

Living and working in an agriculture area allows me to see the next generation that will care for our land and livestock. I couldn't help but see such healthy competition. The last day, after the sale and breaking down stalls, the trailers roll in. Compassion runs thick with the youngest getting consolation from the older Chapter Members.

The tears being understood and a right of passage. There was a certain feel to the Arena, so different from the feel during Awards. More competition; February, I felt a bit annoyed with the Month of Love, all about Valentine's Day. Was the media competition bombarding my senses with retail suggestions? Would I be better in some way if I purchased the seasonal items they were hawking?

When questioning myself it seems a good thing to get outside and be with the herd. A favorite saying, like peeling an onion, my focus comes back and my eyes soften, my mind clears a bit. From Herd Boss, Herd Protector, the true competition I see the herd strong in compassion and I find my place, as so many of our clients do too! Bring it on month of March! Spring is in the air. If you've been to the Ranch lately, you've seen a few subtle changes as the days grow longer. What?

Adding the shedding tools to the grooming doesn't come to mind?

But oh, what a good grooming does for a soul. Come see us, Prospect Riding Center.
