Drinking Water, We Take It For Granted Don’t We?
The water before it is bottled is no different than our city drinking water. After it is bottled it becomes toxic when the chemicals that makes up the plastic leaches into the water.
As a mother I always had concerns that my sons were drinking enough water. Growing up in the heat of Florida summers it was so important. They were always running in the house from playing outdoors to get more water from the tap, or water from the door of the refrigerator. I am glad it was water they preferred to drink and not all of the other sugary choices that were available.
I really hadn’t given it much thought until so much press about bottled water brought it to my attention. It is so sad to think about how it has lthrown off the whole environment as it once stood. Plastic bottles everywhere you turn and not enough room in our landfills for them. Plastic trash that has infiltrated our ponds, lakes, streams, bays and oceans, shredded and spinning around in the currents of our water sources. That is the image from a documentary about the bottled water industry that is etched in my memory.
The water before it is bottled is no different than our city drinking water. After it is bottled it becomes toxic when the chemicals that makes up the plastic leaches into the water. It has become a cool thing to carry around your bottled water, but it could be potentially very harmful to drink it if the bottle has gotten warm or hot. The thing is, sometimes we do not know if it has gotten hot than been cooled down again before it was sold to us. A scary thought, huh?

There are a couple of solutions that are not hard to follow, and are so much healthier. You could drink our tap water in a aluminum drinking bottle, which according to a reliable source, EWG, says Manatee County water is ranked #38, out the top 100 of large cities in the U.S., so the water is pretty good quality. Another option would be to buy a point of source water filtration system. This, of course, is the best option and can be set up with an additional faucet right at your kitchen sink. There is a model with a carbon-block filter and a UV light, that reduces potential health-effect impurities and destroys microorganisms. A water filtration system is an investment at first, but after a short time is more economical than drinking water in manufactured plastic bottles, and you will feel good in more ways than one, a healthier you, and a healthier planet.
