MOTE Marine has some interesting new opportunities for the community including special events, kayaking lessons and volunteer positions. They also have a penguin group coming for a temporary stay soon that they are excited about.
I had never been kayaking before and I have lived in Bradenton for 17 years. I needed to step out of my comfort zone.
So when I saw the posting on MOTE's Facebook page about upcoming introductory lessons I picked up the phone and scheduled a sunrise class for two on Saturday.

It couldn't have been more perfect! The sunrise over the still water, listening to the birds wake up and start chattering to each other, and struggling just a tad to learn the basics of paddling all made for a peaceful way to start my weekend.
My grandson, Dylan Craig, King Middle School student, accompanied me, acting like an old pro. I advised him that this would be a great dating activity, quiet time on the water to talk and reflect. He nodded.

The leader of the class had explained that kayaking is very good training for core muscles. I was afraid I might be sore the next day as I'm not a gym person or even a weekend athlete, but that was not the case.
Two young volunteers accompanied us, taking pictures and pointing out manatees.
After 1 1/2 hours, with slightly damp backsides we reluctantly put the kayaks on the shore and said goodbyes to 4 new friends we had made. Definetly worth setting the alarm for 5 a.m., Dylan and I agreed.
Pure bliss, I would highly recommend it!
