Hello Patch Readers, Manatee County School Board meeting tonight at 5:45pm, October 24, 2011. Sorry this post is a little late. I take care of my Mom in Massachusetts and I just got back in town.
With Ipads we can work anywhere and preparing for a School Board meeting takes time to review the items on agenda as well as contracts and information for each item. Topics range from district lines for elections, district boundaries for schools, charter schools, construction, curriculum, software and lunchroom concerns!
From before the bell 'til long after the last bell of the day, the district business covers each area of education, care and service of buildings and buses and management of all the people who perform the jobs needed in the district.

This weeks topics covered in local media have dealt with changes in the Budget Committee and this is an issue which has had a lot of changes. The Budget Committee was formed a few years ago to deal with decreases in school budgets. We have known for several years that funding would be decreased. Point to note: We never needed a Budget Committee when budgets increased by millions each year but we sure needed one fast to scale back. Contraction and consolidation of departments is not easy for government types of work. Departments are formed and staffed and once in place tend to stay in place.
As teachers go through the national and state changes in public education concerning programs, evaluations and more - so are the other departments that support education and provide the services utilized by employees and students in the district. We are also going through contract concerns and there have been articles posted on local news media concerning these as well.
