Slow Down We Move Too Fast

Are We Too Hurried?

Pace, don't race, my motto last year!  Just repeating my motto would help to slow me down, take a breath, and refocus on my task at hand. Reminding myself that nothing more can get accomplished by rushing. I don't get the best results i want and tend to get easily overwhelmed.  Once overwhelmed I'm not at my best! Frustration, procrastination, and out right immobility starts to take root. How about you? In this fast paced 'get 'er done' world, how do you set your pace?

There isn't room for any of  this type of hesitation while working with the herd. When I can leave the office work, missed calls, and even housework chores behind, I find the communication with the herd much clearer.  They have their own herd reactive behaviors as prey animals that are different than our own behaviors as predators. Wow, what a simple lesson. Get out and work with an animal, it changes your perspective.

This year I am building on my motto and looking for things in my day to day life that can slow me down, reminding  me of this principal that I still seem to struggle with.

I've stumbled upon a few simple things that I use to help remind me of this principal. Silly as this seems, it helps! My new smart phone, smarter than me at this point, has a different keyboard than my old blackberry.  I've had to learn how to use the different commands and multiple screens. While typing some of the keys can just be held a half a second more to get another character. My timing is often poor and I get an incorrect spelling or punctuation. When I catch myself making these mistakes, I remind myself to take a breath as I hold the key just a split second more, then laugh and think "I got it, slow down".

So, how do you remind yourself to slow down and smell the roses?
