Suncoast Communities Blood Bank (SCBB) hopes to help make the holidays a little brighter for local soldiers by collecting non-perishable items for Manasota Operation Troop Support (MOTS). MOTS is a local non-profit organization, serving troops deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait, who have ties to Manatee and Sarasota county families.

From Nov. 21 through Dec. 24, SCBB is asking their blood donors, as well as the public, to drop off non-perishable items at one of their four blood donor centers, or any SCBB bloodmobile in Sarasota and Manatee counties. According to MOTS, the most-requested items are individual portions of trail mix, nuts, power bars and powered drink mixes. White socks and dental floss are high on the list as well.

"Soldiers appreciate the single portion items that fit into the pocket of their uniform as they deploy out into the field. And it's not just about the food. It's about hope. It's a reminder that they have not been forgotten," said MOTS director Linda Craig.

Click here for a complete list of requested items and donor locations.  Anyone donating items will receive a special Support the Troops wrist band.

If you know of a soldier with ties to Sarasota or Manatee counties, who would like to receive a care package, or if you would like to volunteer or make a donation, please contact Linda Craig at 941-782-0748 or at motsfl@gmail.com.

And watch for the new commercial that Suncoast Community Blood Bank produced for the campaign on facebook at Manasota Operation Troop Support or your local television station.

A big HOOAH goes out to everyone at Suncoast who helped to make this happen!
