The Number One Way to Save Money on Moving
After being on thousands of moves, a professional mover shares the #1 tip for saving money on a local move. Short video included with steps to get you started.

Time is money. So the old saying goes and it could not be more true for local moves. As someone who has literally moved thousands of times and seen moves of all shapes and sizes, I cannot stress this next point enough. The #1 way to save money on your move is to properly box everything that is not furniture.
Because local moves are most commonly priced by the hour, the more quickly the movers can work, the lower your total bill will be. And, the number one thing that slows us down is a mover that is not prepared, i.e. improperly packed.
Making trips to carry lamps, bags of shoes or a carry-all full of cleaning products adds unnecessarily to the final bill. When everything is packed, the movers can safely stack several boxes on a dolly and securely stack them in the truck.

Let me emphasize again: pack everything that is not furniture in a box and pack it properly. What does that mean to pack a box properly?
- Pack full to the top so nothing moves around
- Use lots of padding to cushion fragile pieces and ensure contents don’t shift
- The heavier the item, the smaller the box
- Seal all boxes when full
- Label boxes well and consider color coding with markers or tape by room
So now when you or a friend is getting ready to move you know the number one secret for saving both time and money on the move – box everything! You can read more about DIY packing on our website.
