Village of the Arts Artists Team Up With the Salvation Army
The Village of the Arts and Salvation Army partner for an inspirational exhibit.
Striving for excellence is a statement found in many organizations. Employees at The Salvation Army have taken excellence to a whole new level through an internal initiative called “STEP Up,” Strategic Targets for Exceptional Performance. Sparked by the human resources department, Salvation Army employees were challenged to step out of their normal roles and volunteer to “STEP Up” to more effectively serve our community.
One such initiative can be found on the wall of the community dining room at the 14th Street Social Services complex. Team member Maribel Garcia accepted the challenge to share inspiration with staff and community through a very special art project.
“Originally my plan was to create a wall of inspirational quotes in our administrative office to encourage our staff," Garcia said. "As I began to reach out to community resources to help me realize my vision, the project became much bigger and I am now able to share it with the whole community.”

Through a partnership with the Village of the Arts, Garcia invited local artists to paint canvases of inspirational sayings and scenes which are prominently displayed on the dining room wall.
Village of the Arts President and project initiator Linda Bronkema of Bits & Pieces presented the artwork donated by Noel De Brick of Tipsy Gypsy, JoEllen Gorris of Clay in the Garden, SladeNash of Artistic Eye, Dawn Collins of The Village Mystic and Debi Bonine of Wildflower Studio on Thursday, May 10, 2012.

“I am so excited that so many artists joined the project,” Garcia said. “As neighbors, it is essential that we work together to strengthen our community."
The inspirational artwork is on display at The Salvation Army, Social Services and Administration Complex dining room, 1204 14th St. West, Bradenton every evening for the daily community meal at 5:30pm. Community members are invited to visit the display during this time throughout the summer.
