You Are What You Drink

Thoughts about Raymond Kow and the benefits of alkaline water

I didn’t learn about alkaline water from a book, a magazine, a television, a radio or a billboard. I learned about it from a networking meeting.  My initial foray into networking occurred in October 2011 with a group called SPaN at a hotel meeting room in what is now a Holiday Inn on Clark Road in Sarasota.  At networking meetings you get to hear commercials from sincere individuals offering products and services. I discovered a wealth of wellness products and services available. At networking meetings you get the opportunity to describe the ideal referral for your product.

Raymond Kow; open posture, sparkling eyes and infectious smile; delivered a message that was both unique and memorable. He asked everyone
to sit back, relax, close their eyes and visualize a loved one that had a
particular affliction, I believe it was indigestion. He asked us to focus and concentrate on how much we cared about that person. He then said that person was his ideal referral.

It was one of the best messages I have ever heard in a networking meeting. He had samples of the alkaline water with him. People were gathered around him, smiles on their faces and drinking cups in their hands. It was obvious from observing the interactions that most of these individuals were not trying this water for the first time. My curiosity was now piqued to the point where I decided I needed to know more about the effects of alkaline water on human physiology.

  • Helps immune system through antioxidants
  • Reduces build up of acidic toxins
  • Quenches thirst
  • Tastes better

Are these claims valid? After researching them on the internet I’m not sure how to answer that question. Here’s what I do know. The human body needs to maintain a ph balance. The human body is approximately 75% water. The human body needs water. The human body needs safe water. We are constantly introducing liquids into our bodies that are unsafe; one of those unsafe liquids is the water we drink. Skeptics say that the body has mechanisms to restore and balance our ph. What they don’t mention is because of improper nutrition and medications we ingest substances that interfere with our body’s ability to properly function.

I made a decision to try alkaline water.

As a rookie networker I heard claims about wellness products, and of course, being from New Jersey, I was skeptical.  I was skeptical about alkaline water.

I was invited to a demonstration and took advantage of the opportunity. I watched the presentation and was given a couple of gallons of water to take home and sample. I drink a lot of water. I suffer from excess stomach acid and frequent urination. I was anxious to see what effects it would have on me.

  • My stomach acid issues were reduced.
  • My thirst issues were diminished.
  • My frequent urination issues disappeared.
  • I was drinking less water.

I want to help people, especially with issues of health. I had made a decision to sell health insurance to try to accomplish that goal. Raymond Kow believed in his product. Raymond Kow made me think about alternative ways to help individuals with their wellness issues. Insurance helps you after you become ill. What can you do to be proactive and not become ill?

Nutrition is a key element in being proactive, safe water is a key element in nutrition. In a previous submission I stated that I was not the food police, I am also not the water police. But I have become a believer in alkaline water; I also have been eliminating unsafe liquids from my diet.

As a note, I don’t sell alkaline water systems, I do believe in them. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. It worked for me. Suffice it to say, “You are what you drink.”

Raymond Kow was dedicated, knowledgeable and passionate in regards to the subject of personal wellness. He planted the initial spark of inspiration in me to seek alternative avenues to help people with wellness issues. He cared about people, always willing to help.

I’ve been told that he was a volunteer at the Church of the Nativity in Sarasota, which provided coffee and food for the homeless. He passed away unexpectedly last week, an unsung local hero. Though I only knew him briefly, I will remember him for a very long time.

While I would like to think of myself as someone who cares, I know that Raymond Kow was definitely someone who did care. Please say a prayer for his family.
