Chicago Cubs Pick Brendon Little in First Round of MLB Draft

The Chicago Cubs selected SCF sophomore and left-handed pitcher Brendon Little in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft.

The Chicago Cubs selected State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) sophomore and left-handed pitcher Brendon Little in the first round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft. Little was the 27th overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft and was the first junior college player selected.

During the season, Little, a transfer from the University of North Carolina, led the SCF Manatees with 133 strikeouts and a 2.53 ERA. He ranked second in the nation in strikeouts and third in the nation for strikeouts per nine innings.

In 15 drafts with the Boston Red Sox and Cubs, Little is the third-highest-drafted pitcher by Theo Epstein’s front office. Little, 20, stands 6’-2” and is considered a power pitcher. His pitch reached speeds in the mid-90s with a good breaking ball.
