Chick-fil-A Cookies Recalled Due To Peanut Scare

Florida is included in the recall prompted by undeclared peanut, which can cause 'serious or life-threatening allergic' reactions.

Tampa Bay area Chick-fil-A fans with a passion for the chain’s chocolate chunk cookies might want to take note. The bakery responsible for whipping up the tasty treats has issued a national recall alert.

“CSM Bakery Solutions is voluntarily recalling Chick-fil-A Chocolate Chunk Cookies because they may contain low levels of undeclared peanut,” a consumer alert issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration stated. “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanut run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.”

The FDA says the recalled products were distributed only through Chick-fil-A restaurants. Dennis Murphy, spokesman for CSM Bakery Solutions, confirmed the potentially contaminated products were shipped to the chain’s Florida locations.

The recall was kicked off after CSM tested flour used in its cookies post-production and found low levels of undeclared peanut, the FDA said. Consumers and wholesale customers who have purchased affected cookies are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a refund. Customers can also contact CSM Bakery Solutions at 800-241-8526, Ext. 4, option 3 with any questions.

“Customers who purchased cookies from our restaurants are encouraged to discard them or may return them to their local Chick-fil-A for a full refund," the restaurant's statement said.

The chain, which has stores throughout the Tampa Bay area, stated it was going to stop selling the Chocolate Chunk Cookies until it can ensure the issue is resolved.
