Dean of Nursing and Health Professions at SCF Publishes Research on Rural Health

The Dean of Nursing and Health Professions at SCF has published a peer-reviewed journal article on her research into telehealth-based care.

The Dean of Nursing and Health Professions at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) has published a peer-reviewed journal article on her research into telehealth-based care for patients in rural areas. Roseanne Fairchild, who has a Ph.D. in Health Systems Research and Leadership, along with colleagues and healthcare provider staff, published “Perceptions of Rural Emergency Department Providers Regarding Telehealth-Based Care: Perceived Competency, Satisfaction with Care and Tele-ED Patient Disposition.”

The research, published in the Open Journal of Nursing and supported by a Health Services Resource Administration Telehealth Network grant, revealed:

  • Degree programs for health professions students should include experiences with telehealth-based care delivery to improve competencies in telehealth,
  • telehealth supports improved diagnostic decision-making based on reports from the attending providers (physicians), and
  • the majority of patients who have experienced a telehealth visit would recommend it to others.

Fairchild plans to continue the telehealth-based research in the Manatee-Sarasota region. To view the article, visit file.scirp.org/Html/1-1440847_77487.htm.
