Deputies: Man Lured 8-Year-Old With Ice Cream

The Bradenton man is accused of false imprisonment and committing a lewd and lascivious act.

A 67-year-old Bradenton man was behind bars Monday after Manatee County Sheriff’s deputies say he used a bag of ice cream to lure a child into a backyard where he proceeded to kiss her.

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident occurred in the 500 block of 60th Avenue Terrace West around 8 p.m. Sunday. The man, deputies say, approached the 8-year-old and asked her if she wanted ice cream. He is then accused of grabbing her by the arm and taking her into the backyard.

Deputies say the child’s mother was out looking for her and came across the scene. The mom didn’t waste any time calling law enforcement.

When deputies arrived, they charged Uberto Toribio with false imprisonment and lewd and lascivious conduct. Toribio was being held in the Manatee County Jail Monday in lieu of $9,000 bond. Deputies say they do not believe Toribio and the child were acquainted.
