Desoto Bridge Jumper Rescued by Bradenton Firefighters

The incident occurred early Monday morning.

A 23-year-old woman was pulled from the Manatee River near the Desoto Bridge early Monday morning.

According to the Bradenton Fire Department, a call came in around 5:36 a.m. about the woman in the water. The agency’s marine unit searched the river for the woman while other fire and police personnel arrived on the scene.

The woman was found a short time later and was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for treatment, the fire department wrote in an email to media.

Bradenton Police say officers attempted to talk the woman off the bridge prior to her jump. Efforts, however, didn’t pan out when she opted to leap into the water below, the Bradenton Herald reported.

The woman has been identified. Although in critical condition, the Herald is reporting she is expected to recover.
