Driver Killed In Single-Vehicle Crash On I-75: Florida Highway Patrol

The driver of a pick-up truck failed to negotiate a curve on I-75 and crashed into a steel cable barrier, Florida Highway Patrol said.

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — The driver of a pick-up truck died after an early morning single-vehicle crash on Interstate 75, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The crash happened around 12:20 a.m. as the truck was traveling north on I-75 approaching a right curve in the road at mile marker 228, which is I-275 North.

The driver, a 53-year-old Brandon man, failed to negotiate the curve, possibly suffering a medical episode, FHP said. He drove off the road onto the grass median and hit a steel cable barrier.

He was brought to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, the agency said.

The crash remains under investigation.
