Dog Day Afternoon

Sarasota-Bradenton’s canine companions are going to make it a Dog Day Afternoon on Sunday, May 6th, 12 to 4 p.m., at a fun-packed, family-friendly adoptathon that will benefit local animal groups at Gettel Toyota, 6423 14^th St. West (US 41), Bradenton.

The afternoon will be filled with activities including an interactive agility demonstration, a mini obedience training session, pet portraits, door prizes and a doggy fashion show and a dog trick and talent show with WTMY AM 1280’s Susan Marie of The Doggy Diva Show as emcee.  Kid-focused activities include face painting and a drawing contest, and light bites from The Bearded Clam.  Well behaved, leashed dogs are welcome.

Canine Castaways, Honor Sanctuary, Racing Dog Rescue Project will be there with adoptable pups for those looking to add a new member to their families, according to Mary Lou Davidson, online publisher of SarasotaDog.com and ManateeDog.com, and Candace Botha, publisher of Sarasota Pet and Manatee Pet Magazines, who are organizing the event.

“Candace and I appreciate Gettel Toyota’s renewed generosity in hosting this event,” Davidson said.  “General Manager Jeramie Snelling and his team really get that our dogs are part of our families, and they want to help us find good homes for the hundreds of dogs in our area that need permanent homes today.”
