FHP Pumping Up I-75 Enforcement This Weekend

The Florida Highway Patrol wants to help motorists 'Stay Alive on 75.'

Motorists who use Interstate 75 in Sarasota and Manatee counties to get around are likely to notice an increased Florida Highway Patrol presence this weekend.

That’s because the agency is conducting its “Staying Alive on 75” campaign in hopes of promoting safety along the roadway.

“In an effort to decrease Interstate 75 traffic deaths and increase awareness, Troop F will concentrate on enforcement efforts on I-75 throughout Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, Lee and Collier counties as well as in high fatal and high crash locations in Hardee, Desoto, Highlands, Glades and Hendry counties,” the highway patrol announced in an email to media.

The campaign kicks off Friday, March 27, and runs through Sunday.

Troopers say they’ll conduct a number of different enforcement details throughout that time span. They intend to focus on violations related to such things as “impaired driving, aggressive driving, speeding, seatbelts, move over law and distracted driving,” the email said.
