DES MOINES, IOWA — A Bradenton man was arrested Wednesday in Minnesota and faces charges related to the robbery of an Iowa bank.

Javier Rafael Camacho-Cepeda, 22, took an Uber rideshare to and from the Chase bank in Des Moines that he’s accused of robbing that morning, according to multiple reports.

During the robbery, he showed a handgun before leaving with an undisclosed amount of money, WeAreIowa.com reported.

After the robbery, Camacho-Cepeda carjacked a second Uber driver and stole his car. The driver reported the stolen vehicle to Des Moines police on Nov. 30 around noon, telling authorities that it had been taken at gunpoint, according to KCRG.

He then drove north on I-35 into Minnesota, according to reports. Around 6 p.m. that day, he was pulled over about two hours from the U.S.-Canadian border and taken into custody by Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities told WHO 13 that Camacho-Cepeda relying on Uber for a ride to the crime helped them track his whereabouts.

“We were able to gather some information at the bank and then couple that with some information from the Uber driver to figure out very quickly who our suspect was,” said Sgt. Paul Parizek with the Des Moines Police Department. “We’ve got some technology resources available to us and then just some good investigative skills and they were able to determine he was heading to the US-Canadian border.”

Camacho-Cepeda was charged with two counts of robbery in the first-degree, reports said.
