Flap Over Flag House Over

Bradenton's code enforcement department has closed the case.

A Bradenton man with a colorful way of sending a protest message has won his battle against city hall.

The kerfuffle over Brent Greer’s Bradenton home began earlier this year when an anonymous complaint was called in about his Riverview Boulevard home. When the city’s code enforcement department went out to inspect, officers found a host of violations.

When a list of required fixes was sent to Greer, who grew up in the 100-year-old house, he and his family took a stand, according to Bay News 9. After being told the home’s paint was up to snuff, they rounded up buckets of red, white and blue paint, creating a replica flag on the home’s exterior.

“I painted the house the American flag to remind code enforcement and everybody else this is America, the land of the free,” Greer told FOX 13.

Earlier this summer, it was unclear if the paint job would fly. If not, Greer could have faced up to $250 a day in fines.

The city, however, has officially closed the books on the Greer code enforcement case, FOX reported.

As for that red, white and blue paint: Greer says it’s staying.
