Here’s How Much Time Floridians Spend On Computers Daily
See how Florida stacks up when it comes to computer use by state.
How much leisure time are Americans spending on their computers? Researchers wanted to find out, and they discovered Floridians are spending more time in front of their computer screens than their counterparts in other states.
To assess, analysts turned to the American Time Use Survey, which is compiled by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics. Those at Verizon affiliate VerizonSpecials used data from 2013 to 2017 to determine the average amount of hours of leisure time spent on computers for 48 states.
Florida ranked near the top of the list, with residents of the Sunshine State spending one hour and 51 minutes of their leisure time on the computer per day.

The American Time Use Survey included all time spent downloading files, using social media, browsing the web, and other leisurely activities, but excluded such activities as online shopping, banking and use for work.
Residents in Alaska ranked as the top spot for most leisure time spent on their computers at just over 2 hours and 45 minutes every day. On the other end, residents of Delaware had the least amount of time spent looking at computers per day in the country, at just under 45 minutes.

The five states with the most leisure time spent on their computers per day were the following:
- Alaska: 2:46:38
- Arkansas: 2:09:00
- Mississippi: 2:07:12
- Iowa: 1:52:42
- Florida: 1:51:00
Alaska’s daily computer use comes out to a total of 1,010 hours a year, or 42 days, enough time to fly to the moon and back seven times, according to the study.
These five states had residents spending the least amount of leisure time on the computer per day:
47. Delaware: 0:43:48
46. South Dakota: 0:54:36
45. Vermont: 0:56:24
44. North Dakota: 1:07:12
43. Idaho: 1:10:12
The report also found that Americans overall spend an average of 90 minutes on the computer for leisure purposes a day — meaning that if they worked a national-minimum-wage job for the same amount of time, they would have earned $3,969.38 a year.
