Hit-And-Run Driver Struck School Bus, Troopers Say

A search is on for the person responsible.

While no injuries were reported in a Thursday morning hit-and-run crash at U.S. 301 and 9th Street East, Florida Highway Patrol troopers would still very much like to speak with the motorist deemed responsible.

The incident unfolded around 7 a.m. when a Manatee County School bus driven by Rhonda Huston, 54, was stopped facing southeast on U.S. 301 in the right turn lane. Huston had a bus monitor and five students onboard at the time, troopers wrote in a media release.

As Huston waiting on the red light to change, an unknown vehicle failed to stop and struck the bus from behind, the release stated.
